Georg-Büchner-Schule is a primary school with 141 pupils between age 6 to 11. It is located in the city centre of Giessen, Germany. Most of the pupils that attend Georg-Büchner- Schule have a first or second-generation immigrant background. The families of the pupils have roots in about 30 different nations. Most families in this area of the city have to deal with low income and most of the parents have a low level of education. Almost all of the children grow up at least bilingual because at least one of their parents has a non-German mother tongue. So the focus of the educational and pedagogical work in Georg-Büchner-Schule lays not only in the basic contents of the primary school curriculum but in an intensive language learning and developing the social skills of pupils.
